How you can make a PROFIT of Kshs. 83,000/= Selling Phone Cases. #MakeMoneyImportingSeries

Let’s dissect Phone cases.

Firstly, Nairobi has a massive craze for iPhones, meaning all phone case business owners consider the iPhone market 1st priority, leaving many other phone categories neglected.

The market for Android phones, excluding Samsung, is untapped as all the extraordinary/fancy phone cases stocked only cater to the iPhone and Samsung markets.

Well, it’s a proven market. Therefore, it is strategic to stock what the market has proven to have a higher demand.

These 2 phone users have a higher purchasing capacity to spend on phone accessories to ‘show-off/showcase‘ their phones.

As a business owner, you can choose based on what the market has proven. However, iPhone and Samsung cases can be easily compared because of the vast availability of phone cases for those two tech giants in the market.

Therefore, you must find a way to differentiate by customer service, outstanding quality phone cases or extra customization. This is for you to think about and consider.

The other Android markets, Google Pixel, RedMi, Techno, Infinix, etc., have fewer fancy, extraordinary phone cases. Most of these phone cases are basic; carving out a niche to bring excellent, fancy cases for this market would make you stand out.

However, because few have done this, this would be almost an untapped market with high risk; therefore, importing in small batches cultivates the market and creates demand for it if you choose this route.

It would also be best to research all their latest phones and have them stocked, e.g., Google Pixel 6, 7, 8, etc.

For this email breakdown, we will focus on Iphone Phone cases!

The supplier I chose for this example is not the most affordable; however, this supplier had the best reviews. Quality>Price.

Using the ONR sourcing method, this supplier stood out because customers raved about the quality of the product, ease of service, and overall experience they had working with the supplier.

Attending our Masterclass will help you sniff out suitable quality suppliers and have the easiest time importing good-quality products without the need for samples, doubts or fear creeping in whether or not you are getting something good.

Here are some reviews.

Now, let’s crunch the numbers.

Now, if you were to stock from iPhone 11 to 15, you’d stock 11, 11 pro, 11 pro max, up to 15. This would mean 1 design or colour could have about 17 variations or more; therefore, it would be wise to research beforehand to avoid having a large stock of a particular iPhone cover with less demand.

Research on:

  • Take a look at the commonly purchased iPhones in the market, whether they are the standard iPhone, iPhone Pro, or iPhone Pro Max and see which one to stock first.
  • Do this research with friends, family or your personal social media account for data-driven information.
  • You could also follow iPhone shops or phone case pages and keep track of their comments or inquiries in the comment section to see what people are asking for.

Assuming you purchase 1 to 2 colours for 2 different designs, including all iPhone models available. This is how your cost breakdown would look like:

Product D –  Has more buyers and more reviews. (Look at the picture above.)

This option has 1 design—transparent; you would need 17 options, as shown above. (Ps. Research what iPhones Kenyans own the most to narrow down from 17 to something like 10, which would be more manageable.)

Therefore, 17 options would cost $0.9*17=$15.3 because there’s only 1 colour mode. Purchase at least 2 sets of each variation: $15.3*2=$30.6 for 34 cases.

Product A – 2nd most buyers and reviews. (Look at the picture above.)

For 1 colour (black), you would need 17 options, as shown above. (Ps. Research what iPhones Kenyans own the most to narrow down from 17 to something like 10, which would be more manageable.)

Therefore, for 34 cases, one colour (black) would cost $2.3* 17 = $39.1, and two colours (black and light purple) would cost $39.1* 2 = $78.2.

Your first shipment would have 68 Design A and Design D phone cases.

You would pay a total of $78.2 + $30.6 = $108.8 (Round up to $110)

Assuming a USD rate of 150, you would spend $110*150= 16,500/= on purchasing 68 phone cases.

Shipping would range between 2000 – 3500/-. (Depending on the number of phone cases packed in the box for sea shipping.)

Total 16,500+2500=Ksh 19,000/=

What next? Use your 1st shipment to collect data. Which iPhone cover type moves faster than most?

This will help you ship specific phone covers, avoid dead stock, and know your customer’s tastes and preferences.

Because of the quality of the phone case, you can charge more than the market price.

A price between Ksh. 1200/—and 2000/—per phone case would give you good profit margins for the next shipment and marketing costs. Also, due to the design difference, you can charge one case slightly higher than the other.

Assuming all 68 cases are sold at an average of 1500/- each, the total revenue received is Ksh. 102,000/=

That is a total profit of Ksh. 102,000 – 19,000 = Ksh 83,000/=

Assuming only half of the phone cases sell, 34 cases at 1500/- each, the total revenue received is Ksh. 51,000/=

This is still above your investment total with a profit margin of Ksh. 32,000/=
